About

Founder-led engineering for practical, hands-on technical work.

STEM Design Labs is a design, prototyping, and technical consulting studio focused on useful physical and digital systems.

The studio supports custom product prototypes, electronics, digital fabrication, software, cloud systems, AI-enabled workflows, and technical education. The work is intentionally hands-on and cross-disciplinary, bridging workshop processes with modern software and systems integration.

As founder and principal engineer, Jeff Ross helps move projects from concept to working reality, whether that means a one-off tool, a functional prototype, a custom hardware and software system, technical training, or a specialized fabrication workflow.

Jeff Ross brings senior-level software architecture, hosted services, firmware, electronics design/rework, CNC and laser-informed fabrication workflows, instructional design instincts, and the patience to translate between stakeholders who speak different engineering dialects. Based in Ottawa, Ontario. Supporting local and remote clients.

Representative toolchain exposure: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, embedded C, Arduino-class platforms, Raspberry Pi-class edge nodes, MQTT/REST integrations, reproducible scripting, pragmatic cloud builds.

Approach

True full-stack engineering.

The differentiator is not just technical breadth, but the ability to connect physical design, fabrication, electronics, embedded systems, software, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled backends into one coherent implementation path.

That makes STEM Design Labs a strong fit for projects that need thoughtful problem solving, custom integration, and someone who can work comfortably from bench tools to deployment pipelines.
